Tiny wall in Albi

Inspired by Toulouse-Lautrec, this electrical transformer is located within a UNESCO World Heritage site!

This mural is the first project of the Participatory Budget initiative launched by the Albi City Hall to paint walls in the city center. This project is also a partnership with Enedis, as it involved repainting an electrical transformer. Located in a UNESCO World Heritage Site and just steps from the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, it was only natural that we chose to pay tribute to the painter Toulouse-Lautrec.

As a starting point for my work, I attempted an interpretation of a portrait by Carmen Gaudin: “In Montrouge, Rosa the Red,” painted around 1886-67. The initial idea was to paint the moment after, the instant she turns her head and looks directly at us. Then, I allowed myself to develop a more modern interpretation with bold colors and a slightly “manga” quality to her gaze, a nod to Toulouse-Lautrec’s fascination with Japanese culture.
